Vermeil, made of silver and gold
Aside from the high jewelry collections, Charlotte CHESNAIS jewels are made of vermeil, an ancestral alloy of massive silver covered in gold. The precious metal is recognisable from its guarantee “V” stamp, which attests to a 5 micron layer of 18 karat gold, 5 times thicker than most gold plated jewelry.
Unlike other metals used in jewelry, like brass or bronze, silver does not rust, is not allergenic, and can bear an infinite number of successive gold layers.
The patina of time
Although particularly resistant, vermeil can develop a patina and oxidise (a natural process inherent to silver). It carries the unique imprint of the moments it has shared with you. If maintained, Charlotte CHESNAIS jewelry can last forever, and be passed down through generations.
